In 1994, the Port of Seattle purchased a licensing agreement that allows for the use of the World Trade Center Association name, logo, and access to a proprietary computer-driven interactive data system that links over 300 World Trade Centers spanning 92 countries. The World Trade Center Association is an international educational and business services network. Prior to the final vote to proceed with World Trade Center Seattle (WTCSE), the Port Commission conducted a feasibility study involving regional companies. The study was extremely optimistic about the success of WTCSE.
This project was the last component of the Port's waterfront development project and serves as a tribute to the importance of international trade to our region. A physical focal point for the international community, WTCSE greatly enhances our ability to leverage the area's expanding global stature and improve global education programs throughout the Pacific Northwest. This is a creative partnership that involves the Port and the international trade community designed to strengthen the level of international flow between key providers of international business and educational services.
WTCSE was completed in October of 1998 on Seattle's thriving waterfront across from Pier 66. The complex houses three structures: two commercial office buildings (World Trade Center East and World Trade Center North) and a four-story building owned by the Port of Seattle (World Trade Center West). The fourth floor of World Trade Center West serves as a dynamic venue for international trade and business development opportunities in our region. It also houses various government and nonprofit trade organizations.
These organizations, participating in a co-location concept, share common conference rooms and other business service amenities. In addition, the fourth floor features the Holland America Line Dining Room and four boardrooms available to WTCSE sponsors, members, and nonprofit tenants. The Port of Seattle has contracted with Columbia Hospitality, Inc. (Columbia) to serve as the management team for WTCSE; Columbia also manages the Bell Harbor International Conference Center on Pier 66, part of a portfolio of unique venues throughout the Northwest.
